Create a statement crochet rug with the LacePeacock pattern.

LacePeacock is a decorative oval crochet design with an intricate lace-inspired structure. The same pattern can be worked in different materials and scales, from a large area rug to a small cotton doily.

The pattern includes written row-by-row instructions together with a video tutorial to help you follow the more complex elements.

FINISHED SIZES

The final size depends on the material and hook you choose.

Large rug:
Approx. 124.5 × 84 in (316 × 214 cm)

Medium rug:
Approx. 84.5 × 56 in (215 × 142 cm)

Cotton doily:
Approx. 23.5 × 16.5 in (60 × 42 cm)

MATERIALS FOR A LARGE RUG

• Braided cord
• 10 mm crochet hook
• Approx. 4,000 m (4,374 yd) of cord

The original large rug was made with polyester braided cord weighing approximately 380 g per 100 m (3.8 g/m), or about 13.4 oz per 109 yd.

MATERIALS FOR A MEDIUM RUG

• Lighter braided cord
• 7–8 mm crochet hook
• Approx. 2,900 m (3,171 yd) of cord

The original medium rug was made with a lighter polyester braided cord.

CHOOSING A CORD

You do not need to use the same cord brand, exact diameter, or a cord with a core.

The most important characteristic is the construction of the cord. Look for a BRAIDED cord rather than a soft twisted macramé cord. Twisted macramé cords behave differently when crocheted and will not produce the same structure and stitch definition.

Depending on the manufacturer and country, a suitable material may be sold as braided cord, polyester cord, crochet cord, or simply cord.

The diameter stated by the manufacturer is only a general reference. Different cords labeled with the same diameter can vary considerably in actual thickness and density.

For the large rug, a useful reference is the weight of the original cord:

• 3.8 g per meter
• 380 g per 100 m
• 13.4 oz per 109 yd

Your substitute does not need to match this number exactly. A somewhat lighter or heavier braided cord can also be used.

Please keep in mind that changing the cord may affect the finished size, texture, and total amount of cord required. The yardage listed above should therefore be treated as a reference when using a substitute.

OPTIONAL COTTON VERSION

The same pattern can also be worked with a much finer yarn to create a decorative doily instead of a rug.

The original small version was made with:

• Mercerized cotton
• 1.5 mm crochet hook
• Approx. 125 g of cotton yarn

The finished size was approximately 23.5 × 16.5 in (60 × 42 cm).

This is an optional variation and demonstrates how the LacePeacock design can be adapted to different materials and scales.
